  I think travelers will continue to travel, to the world after extinction, to observe the beginning and origin of everything, starting from the beginning of civilization

  My guess is that he went to a very distant future, where he hoped to find a more peaceful and harmonious world than the one he left behind. Maybe he wanted to see if humans could evolve into a more intelligent and compassionate species, or if they would eventually disappear from the earth. I think he was driven by curiosity and a sense of wonder, but also by a dissatisfaction with his own society and its problems. He was looking for a better place to belong.
