  At the end of the novel, the traveler travels back in time for    the last time to the future world and discovers that the sun is    getting darker, the earth is very old, and even the air is thinning.    He encounters a group of tiny green creatures called the Aloyans,    the only life forms on Earth, and humans were extinct millions of    years ago.

  Therefore, it can be inferred that the last place where the    traveler may arrive is the extremely distant future of the earth,    when the earth is already so old that it cannot even sustain the    environment for human existence. This ending is also an expression    of Wells' pessimistic prediction about the future of mankind.
