Her aunt, Mrs. Reed, revealed a secret to Jane before her death, which was that she had received a letter from Uncle Jane, in which she mentioned leaving her inheritance to Jane. But Mrs. Reed concealed this letter due to her disgust towards Jane, causing Jane to never know she had an inheritance.
