The spirit of the Chinese

In the book "The spirit of the Chinese", the author compares the Chinese with the Americans, the British, the Germans and the French, highlighting the characteristics of the Chinese: natural, broad-minded and simple. "The spirit of the Chinese" is a masterpiece of Gu Hongming's promotion of Chinese traditional culture to the West. His purpose is to explain the spirit of the Chinese nation and the value of Chinese civilization.

But I don't personally agree with this part of Chinese women. Some ideas are too radical, but combined with the author's contemporary background, the author's ideas are also reasonable. The status of women has changed with the process of history. The feudal ideology of the old society and the unfair treatment of women have disappeared. With the strong advocacy of feminism, women's status has gradually increased and they have gained more respect.

The author also talks about Chinese language in the book. The author thinks that Chinese is a language of the mind. The Chinese nation is an old and full of energy. The author draws the conclusion that the real Chinese are people with "childlike hearts and adult minds." It is well known that Chinese culture is wide and profound, and the Chinese language is no exception. From the world's language system, Chinese is also the most special and most magical. The most important expression is Tang poetry and Song poetry. Beautiful words, short sentences, poets can use some simple words to explain their inner feelings. Reading is more catchy and intoxicating.

Now that the Chinese spirit is discussed, it is impossible to bypass Chinese civilization. The author is comparing Chinese civilization with modern European civilization. The author believes that the Chinese as a group do not have a serious European religion to some extent. However, in Chinese civilization, Confucianism has always promoted the construction of Chinese spiritual civilization. He thinks Chinese people are particularly polite people. They know how they feel and are therefore easy to consider the feelings of others. Chinese politeness, although not as comprehensive as Japanese courtesy, is comfortable. The Chinese spirit is the spirit of eternal youth and the spirit of national immortality. So what is the reason for the immortality of the Chinese nation? In the author's opinion, it is because the real Chinese have indescribable elegance. Chinese civilization makes the Chinese live a life of eternal youth.

What is the spirit of the Chinese people? That's not easy to answer. This book expounds the spirit of the Chinese people through "The Chinese Spirit", "The Chinese Woman", "The Chinese Language", "John Smith In China", "A Great Sinologist" and "Chinese Scholarship". Through many examples and comparisons, the old gentleman deeply analyzed the spirit of the Chinese people. I think the Chinese modesty is the most valuable and need to continue, the Chinese spirit should also "take its essence, get rid of its dross." As a Chinese in the new era, I think we should learn from the useful parts of the book and try to be a deep, broad, simple and sensitive person.
