Talk on the Book
In the history books, we have all learned Xun zi's theory of "human‘s natural soul is evil", which coincides with the western theory of "humanity is the devil". In this book, Mr. Gu has always emphasized that Chinese people are different from others in spirit in self-discipline, we do not need religious conversion, we are more nurtured by ritual and music, in this case, the spiritual pillar and spiritual restraint naturally generated.
This kind of ceremony and music came from Confucianism, which was called "feudal dross" at that time. Confucianism is not a religion, but it teaches people truth as religion does. Religion is a form of coercion. If a person wants to be happy, he must convert to it and believe in that god. Before doing something bad, he will think that he will be punished by the god, so as to stop his evil thoughts. In fact, Confucianism shaped human themselves. Under the restraint of ceremony and music, evil ideas even did not arise at all. Everyone demanded himself with the gentleman's style, which is the subjective consciousness of human beings. Only for those who cannot be edified by rites and music can the law work.
I have always admired Mr. Gu. During who lived in the chaotic period of the Republic of China, when some so-called "progressives" overwhelmingly denied our native culture, he resolutely stood on the cusp of the storm and pushed out Chinese culture. It is not easy to go against the tide of the times with one person's strength, let alone to make such a contribution, which deserves our respect and respect.
Reading this book, I not only exercised my English reading ability, but also understood the views of the Masters of the Republic of China on the Chinese spirit better. I also thought about religious issues.
Finally, I want to pay a tribute to Mr. Gu once again.
