中国人的精神 书评 纵观其时代
杨跞予
"The Spirit of the Chinese" is a book written by Gu hongming . The purpose is to reveal the connotation of Chinese spirit and explore the value of Chinese culture. In modern times, there have been many misunderstandings about Chinese civilization, not only because of China's weakness, but also because of the differences between Chinese and Western culture.
Gu Hongming wrote this book to safeguard the dignity of Chinese culture and had a great influence.
The book explains Chinese civilization from different perspectives, and I am impressed by the main aspects of religion and morality. The author believes that Western civilization binds people to Christianity. They pay attention to original sin, bind people with fear, and use priests as tools. When Christianity can not bind the people, use the law and military constraints. In contrast, China has followed Confucianism since ancient times. The Chinese believe that human nature is good and that people are bound by morality. This is very peaceful and at the same time long-lasting.
It is also wrong to suggest that Westerners have no faith in the Chinese. Like religion, Confucius's gentleman's law is a refined and orderly moral law -- a deeper and higher moral standard than that of philosophers and moralists. This is the Chinese faith.
From the point of view of women, the author portrays the traditional and virtuous image of Chinese women. Although this meets the aesthetic standards of the collaborators, it appears to be pedantic in modern times. In general, the author still conveys the traditional Chinese aesthetic values, marriage views, and family views.
The author emphasizes the superiority of Chinese. He expressed his praise for the beautiful Chinese language by comparing the same text. Then he led out the profound sinology, elaborated sinology in detail, highly praised the literary value of Chinese works. At the same time, he also refuted the Western people's remarks about the Chinese people's low intelligence. He proposed to study the literature of a nation and must study it as an organic whole. It can not be divided as most foreign scholars currently do, and there is no plan or procedure for research.
From today's point of view, the author's point of view is a little narrow, but the spirit he embodies is very valuable. In a time of weakness, he remained optimistic and confident, and made his views public without fear of ridicule.
