不可名状

The One

不可名状

The one who knows what he tends to do is almost impossible but never gives up, is not only the HERO, but also the IDIOT. And the latter always hides in their pipe dreams in order to refuse reality. I am completely opposed to the most opinion given by Gu Hongming in the book-just for a girl who was born in the new China and accepted the idea of Marxism, what Mr. Gu said is unbelievable!

Yes, he is a man who is REALLY out of touch with reality. The era was no longer the old one and there were numerous wonderful individuals keeping on forging ahead, while Mr. Gu still held a kind of fossil opinion of our history.

I think, the expression of him came from his social class, which was far away from civilians. And as a consequence of it, he tried his best to keep his vested interest. What was shown at the same time, was the truth that he had none of empathy. Maybe you'll think that I have no example, well, let's give some of them.

The Chinese woman, in his book, is not human but a kind of object. As a husband, what he argued being good for his wife was, yes, was to bring concubines in their home. How ABSURD the expression is!

And what about the LOVE?

Let's take a look-

'Can a man who really loves his wife has the heart to have other women besides her in his house?

To this I answer, yes,--Why not?'

And we all know, a nice husband is advised to protect his wife, both the body and the heart. How should you do this when you NEVER feel SATISFIED with having only one woman?

For him, this is easy to answer-you could make you wife lost her heart!

And let's have a look again-

'Now to bring a strange woman into the house must hurt the wife, hurt her feelings... In other words, it is the selflessness in the wife in China which enables, permits the husband to take a concubine without hurting the wife.'

I know it's a little long, but I think it's a good example to show the feminine ideal in his view-an object which is good at three obediences and Four Virtues.

Besides the attitude towards woman, his opinion on the education is what I completely dislike. Mr. Gu thinks the Chinese people are naturally divided into two distinct classes-if you could use the written language, you are a really educated man; if you only could use the spoken language, you are an uneducated man-no half educated people in China, but Europe and America have them. In other words, it's a kind of people who talk of something without in the least understanding what the words really mean. He regards them as a huge danger to civilization. Maybe he was true, but how should people solve the problem?

It's also easy to answer-by talking the West into learning from China and dividing the masses into two classes again!

Instead of promoting education, he aimed to return the masses to an era of ignorance and become the uneducated one!

I think these examples can show the absurdity of him. What makes me feel even more absurd is that, although the thought of Mr. Gu tried to keep his vested interest, he performed just like he was for the country.

The aim of writing the Spite of the Chinese People seemed to show the advantage of Chinese spite and Chinese people, then assimilated the West by our culture. However, what he showed completely were the ugly things of the Chinese culture. What's more, if we can touch the heart of the West just by speech and even dream of making them convince, why the new China paid so much to develop itself?

So, to this book, the order of it is unrealistic, the thought of it is absurd and the writer of it is the one who never rides the wave of the days.

Well, on the other hand, this book strengths my English reading ability and broadens my horizons. The difference it makes to me can never be ignored.
